Protecting the Law since 1986

Duckworth Law office was originally founded by Kiel Duckworth’s father, Kent Duckworth, who is retired. Kent Duckworth was born in Newberry, South Carolina. Kent attended Presbyterian College in Clinton, South Carolina and graduated in 1971.

Kent was a member of Kappa Alpha Order and volunteered for Army ROTC. Kent was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Signal Corps upon graduation from college. Kent entered University of South Carolina Law School in 1971, and graduated in 1974. He passed the South Carolina Bar Exam, but knew immediately that Montana was where he wanted to be.

Kent worked for a short time in Glendive before the Army came calling in 1974 and ordered Kent to Ft. Gordon, Georgia for his Signal Officer Basic Course. He completed active duty and was discharged as a First Lieutenant Reserve Officer. When Kent returned to Montana, Montana Legal Services Association sent Kent to Anaconda. After passing the Montana Bar Exam, he returned to Anaconda briefly, and then worked in Lake County as a Deputy County Attorney for about two years and tried many criminal cases. Kent then worked for Heath & Kirwan in Bozeman, Montana for about a year, was married, and then returned to Lake County, Montana in 1979 to join the practice of Phil Grainey and John French.

In 1986 Kent bought property in Ronan and opened what is now Duckworth Law Office. Kent’s practice consisted of some criminal cases, personal injury, workers’ compensation, and insurance law. When in practice, Kent was a member of the Montana Trial Lawyer’s Association (MTLA) and member of the Board of Directors for the MTLA. Kent is now retired and no longer actively practices at Duckworth Law Office. He has passed the torch to his son, Kiel Duckworth.
